Position: Customs Clerk
Location: Leeds
Work Hours: Monday to Friday
Salary: Up to 30,000 - 35,000 (DEO)
We are recruiting for one of the largest privately owned international freight forwarding companies operating from 9 locations in the UK.
We seek a Multi-Modal Customs Clerk to play a crucial role in supporting the day-to-day operations team and reporting to the Customs Manager. The team liaise with customers and suppliers to ensure a smooth clearance of their consignments; establishing close relationships with a global supply chain.
Key Responsibilities for a Customs Clerk:
- Create job files, and accurately enter data into customs software to submit entries promptly for imports and exports.
- Ability to process documents such as COO, EUR1 on ICERT
- Track and monitor declaration status.
- Processing refunds via HMRC
- Liaising with importers & exporters and internal operational colleagues to obtain mandatory information for import entries.
- Allocating the correct licences depending on type of goods being imported.
- Calculate and process taxes and duties to be paid by buyers of goods.
- Be fully conversant with import Customs regulations, whilst keeping up to date with changes as they occur.
- Liaise with Port Health, Border Force of HMRC officials in areas such as document checks, goods quarantine etc.
- Arrange the release of goods from Customs-approved sites (ETSF locations) and/or port of arrival with liaison with internal colleagues on release, transport & warehousing issues.
- Taking decisive action with the organisation of the flows of activity
- Ensuring customs authorisation documentation is checked and correctly complete
Requirements:
- At least 1 years' experience in customs role
- To comfortably complete 75+ entries per week.
- Good understanding of Customs legal requirements and the impact or incorrect information and/or Customs declarations.
- Experience of CDS essential, Descartes and FCL preferred
- Sound understanding of Destin8 / CNS
- Good trade tariff knowledge
- Complex problem solving
- Self-motivating with the ability to organise your work load effectively
- Ability to operate windows based applications and any other software that is standard within the industry.
- Work in a fast-paced environment ensuring clearance processes are completed in a complaint and timely manner.
- Knowledge of HMRC compliance and regulations
- Experienced user of Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word and Outlook
