The Currie & Brown group operates as an autonomous pillar of Sidara, a global collaborative of specialist firms operating in the built environment and headquartered in the UAE. The business is growing and the volume of tax related matters to address is increasing.    The business is recruiting a Group Head of Tax to be based in either Leeds or Stockton on Tees (3 days a week in the office) with travel to London 2 or 3 times a month. Reporting to the Group Finance Director, with a secondary reporting line to Currie & Brown’s parent organisation’s tax team, the role will play a key part in the day to day business as well as leading tax specific projects and ensuring that the approach is consistent with needs of the parent Group.  The role is broad in scope and will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to make a niche for themselves in a multi faceted organisation.    At a detailed level, responsibilities will include the following: 
  • Liaising with Regional Finance Directors to ensure local tax reporting requirements are met  
  • Monitoring and review of Group tax compliance processes and tax audits including liaison with local and overseas Tax Authorities  
  • Provision of internal tax advisory services to the international business in relation to bids, cross-border trading, employee mobility, acquisitions etc  
  • Advising on structuring of new entities including corporate restructuring and tax advice  
  • Identifying tax planning opportunities to legally maximise tax efficiency and reduce risk including supporting the wider group with the introduction of Global Minimum Tax  
  • Monitoring for changes in tax legislation and ensuring that appropriate actions and training are put in place, as well as ongoing monitoring of tax policies and procedures. 
  • Management of and liaison with external tax and other advisors  
  • Assisting with audit processes and year end statutory accounts  
  • Criminal Finance Act 2017 compliance  
  • Reporting to parent company on wider group issues  
  • Supervision of an Assistant Tax Specialist  
  • Tax compliance including year-end tax provisioning for group reporting and individual UK statutory accounts, UK corporate tax returns, overseeing VAT, Master File and Local File compliance, PAYE, P11d and PSA for UK employees and equivalent for overseas employees and IR35 compliance 
  Potential candidates should meet the following criteria: 
  • ACA/CTA qualified, preferably with a Top 20 firm  
  • A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience and exposure to overseas tax matters including cross border trading  
  • Good accounting knowledge and a commercial approach  
  • An ability to work both autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team  
  • Taken as given will be excellent written and oral communication skills, well developed interpersonal skills enabling the building of relationships throughout the group, and good organisational skills with an ability to meet tight deadlines  
  • IT capability including Excel, Word and One Source or other tax software
