Senior Town Planner - Leeds Office (Hybrid Working)

Location: Leeds Position: Senior Town Planner

A leading planning consultancy is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Town Planner to join their dynamic team based in Leeds. My client provides all-inclusive development planning services across a broad spectrum of sectors, including commercial, residential, energy, minerals, waste management, leisure, retail, utilities, and mixed-use schemes. They have a proven track record of delivering successful projects for clients both in the UK and overseas.

Role OverviewAs a Senior Town Planner, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality planning solutions to a diverse range of clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert planning advice, preparing planning applications, engaging with stakeholders, and working closely with local authorities and government organisations. You will have the opportunity to work across a wide variety of projects, from small-scale developments to large, complex schemes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading and managing planning projects across various sectors including residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
  • Planning Applications and Appeals: Preparing, submitting, and managing planning applications and appeals, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and legislation.
  • Negotiating Planning Conditions: Negotiating planning conditions, permissions, Section 106 agreements, and other planning obligations.
  • Planning Advice: Providing expert planning advice and guidance on development projects, infrastructure schemes, and other related activities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Managing and undertaking stakeholder engagement and public consultations to ensure all key parties are involved and informed.
  • Expert Witness Services: Providing expert witness services at public inquiries and hearings to support the company's planning projects.
  • Managing client relationships and maintaining strong communication with stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with internal teams, local authorities, and other professionals to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Mentoring and guiding junior planners, providing support in their professional development.

Essential Requirements:

  • Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) with proven experience in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of UK planning legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience across a range of sectors, including residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
  • Experience with planning applications, appeals, negotiating conditions and permissions, and Section 106 agreements.
  • Proven ability to prepare and manage environmental impact assessments.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the ability to influence and advise clients effectively.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement experience and the ability to lead public consultations.

Desirable:

  • Experience in working with local authorities and government agencies.
  • Knowledge of the planning system across international markets.
  • Experience in managing and mentoring junior staff.
