This role is about more than processing payments. You'll ensure compliance with tax laws, pensions, and statutory payments while maintaining data integrity and confidentiality. Spotting and solving issues before they escalate will be second nature to you.

You'll also work closely with HR, finance, and other departments to keep everything up to date-from statutory payments like sick pay and pensions to PAYE, RTI filings, and P11Ds. Got an employee with a query? You'll handle it with professionalism and clarity, giving them answers they can actually understand.

To do this job well, you'll need:

  • Proven experience in payroll with knowledge of UK payroll systems and processes.
  • A strong grasp of pensions, National Insurance, and other statutory payroll requirements.
  • Confidence with payroll software and solid MS Excel skills.
  • The ability to explain payroll matters clearly, even to someone who doesn't know their NI from their PAYE.
  • A knack for staying organised, accurate, and calm under pressure.
  • It would be desirable if you had a AAT or CIPP qualification and knowledge of auto-enrolment pension schemes.
