Financial Accountant
  • Location: Leicester (Hybrid Working)
  • Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum

We are currently recruiting for a Financial Accountant, where you will play a pivotal role in maintaining accurate and compliant financial records for a public sector organisation. This position offers the opportunity to lead the preparation of annual statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors, providing specialist financial advice and support to both internal and external stakeholders. You will also lead and develop a small team fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Leading People:

    • Manage and develop staff, including trainees and work placement students, setting priorities, providing feedback, and training.
    • Foster a team environment that aligns with shared purpose and values, ensuring clear direction and effective performance management.
  • Financial Accounting:

    • Provide timely financial information and advice, prepare statutory accounts, and lead the year-end planning process.
    • Act as a primary contact for external auditors, ensuring that all audit responses are accurate and completed within set deadlines.
    • Oversee revenue budget coordination, balance sheet reconciliations, and the completion of financial returns and claims.
  • Service Delivery and Support:

    • Interpret complex legislative directives and financial regulations, enhancing financial systems and procedures.
    • Lead project work and provide expert financial advice to service managers, aiding in decision-making and achieving service objectives.
    • Manage additional responsibilities such as providing managerial cover and undertaking miscellaneous duties as needed.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Fully Qualified Accountant, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA.
  • Exposure to managing a small established team creating a positive high performing culture. 
  • Thorough understanding of finance and accounting practices, with the ability to interpret and present complex financial information.
  • Experience with complex accounting.
  • Innovative problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
