Assistant Accountant (Maternity Cover)

Hybrid (2 days WFH after 3 months)

Job Description:

Our client is seeking an Assistant Accountant for Maternity Cover for a minimum of 9 months, with the possibility of an extension to 12 months. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in managing the financial operations and supporting the accounting team.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Accounts Assistant and collaborate with the off-site Company Accountant.
  • Formulate strategic financial business plans.
  • Manage daily operations of the Accounting and Finance Department.
  • Analyse and track company financial data.
  • Monitor budgeting and forecasting.
  • Lead analysis of financial reporting numbers.
  • Minimise financial risks and rectify errors.
  • Oversee payroll-related matters.
  • Implement financial checking of transactions and reconciliations.
  • Ensure timely tracking and payment of invoices.
  • Follow up on outstanding invoices and develop recovery solutions.
  • Continuously improve accounting practices and procedures.
  • Support and develop the accounting team.
  • Manage team attendance, conduct, and performance.
  • Conduct appraisals and provide training as needed.
  • Lead and develop skills of the team responsible for payroll, VAT, and HMRC processes.
  • Work to deadlines and ensure timelines are met.
  • Analyse customer information and trends.
  • Assist in maintaining realistic financial goals.
  • Address pay-related queries from staff.
  • Ensure financial certifications are available for auditors.
  • Undertake further qualifications and keep training up to date.
  • Attend relevant financial workshops/seminars.

This position reports to the Director of Operations and will be a 2 stage interview process with a view to appoint the right person to start in April.
