The Role

We are looking to recruit a professional who will lead our Health & Safety culture across all of our business in the UK. You will be responsible for health, Safety, Environmental and Quality within the business and be responsive and proactive to situations within the business in mitigating such situations. A detail oriented effective communicator who provides accurate and timely responsiveness to enquiries, requests and deadlines whilst promoting the business to maximise exposure within the industry associations and help individuals and groups develop H&S skills and knowledge to meet industry standards.

This role will predominantly be based at our Leicester Head Office but may require occasional travel to our UK branches.

Responsibilities

Preparation of HS&E strategies and develop internal policies and procedures, ensuring that all HS&E guidance and documentation is developed, reviewed and maintained in accordance with relevant legislation.

Lead the development and implementation of effective strategic, structures and systems for the management of HS&E within the business

Manage HS&E governance across all sites and drive HS&E culture.

Give advice and help to plan, execute, monitor and review protective and preventative measures in the work place to minimise operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries in line with policies and procedures to reduce the need for corrective actions.

Assessing of Health, Safety and environment for competencies for Engineer subcontractors.

Liaise with relevant stakeholders (regulatory bodies and Site Management) to ensure Abel is compliant and ensure adequate risk assessment policies and insurances are in place to manage subcontractors activity, a safe environment for customers and associates with adequate welfare facilities and the safe installation of equipment.

Ensure at all times that all subcontractors and employees are adhering to HS&E legislation and procedures.

Taking the lead on risk assessments and outlining safe systems of work which identify and take account of relevant risks.

Provide all workers with site induction packs and ensure site inductions have been carried out with regular training as and when required.

Ensure regular and sufficient site H&S audits are carried out, documented and reported.

Working with management teams to change working practices to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

Investigating, reporting on maintaining records of accidents, incidents and near misses.

Managing, organising and advising on the safe storage of products in line with COSHH Regulations and the Fire Safety Order.

Liaising regularly with, Onsite Engineers and 3rd Parties.

Liaising with HR and 3rd party Occupational Health provider on vocational rehabilitation.

Liaising and co-ordinating visits with insurers for accident investigation, personal injury and defence purposes.

If necessary, liaising with regulatory authorities regarding enforcement visits to ensure all enforcement notices are actioned and adhered to.

Maintain and review portals for Industry Standard Accreditation.

Determines Health, safety and Compliance training needs and requirements by meeting with managers, talking with employees and liaising with HR.

Monitors training programmes and manuals to ensure that they are effective and up to date and makes updates and necessary

Keeps current on the activities and needs of that industry by attending regular meetings, conferences and seminars.

Ensure all branches comply with H&S and legal regulations

Recognise all appropriate Associations in line with the Fire & Security Industry.

Ensure the business has membership to those Associations.

Promote Abel within those Associations ensuring the best possible exposure.

Identify key Association heads and establish positive relationships with all stakeholders.

Manage the Association membership application approval process.

Publish monthly/annual reports on membership status.

Where appropriate, you will advise on changes and how to implement them and provide training, tools and techniques to enable other to achieve quality standards and legal compliance.

Devise and establish the companys procedures, standards and specifications.

Working with Purchasing to ensure quality requirements from external suppliers.

Set standards for quality as well as Health & Safety.

Looking at ways to reduce waste and increase efficiency.

Defining quality procedures in line with operating staff.

Setting up and maintaining controls and documentation processes.

Making suggestions for changes and improvements and how to implement them.

Making sure the company is working as effectively as possible to keep up with competitors.

Requirements

Qualification in HS&E is desirable e.g. relevant IOSH/NEBOSH although an investment in training and development will also be considered.

Excellent working knowledge of H&S legislation, keeping up to date with changes and experienced in updating/informing the business where applicable.

Knowledge of OHSAS18001/4500, ISO14001; ISO9001 (desirable)

Ability to work independently on own initiative with minimal supervision.

Full driving license as inter-site travel is required.
