We are seeking a Public Lighting Manager to provide decisive and effective leadership within our council's infrastructure. This role requires a full driving licence for occasional site visits. The successful candidate will ensure the effective, efficient, and economic delivery of public lighting, traffic signs/bollards, and festive decorations service provision.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Lead and involve teams in creating a shared purpose to help them develop and achieve results.
  • Provide clear direction and manage performance by setting objectives, agreeing outcomes, monitoring outputs, and holding individuals and teams accountable.
  • Adapt leadership style to ensure positive outcomes and respect diverse views, utilising HR tools for effective people and performance management.
  • Develop positive relationships within and outside the team, promoting fairness and respect.
  • Inspire creativity and innovation, supporting team development and encouraging autonomy.
  • Manage and support an establishment of approximately 15 council employees, including apprentices.
  • Ensure adherence to structured work programmes to deliver service aims.
  • Develop and deliver the Team’s Business Plan, providing specialist advice in lighting design and overseeing major work programmes and projects.
  • Manage the in-house contractor, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety and industry standards.
  • Handle financial aspects, including setting budgets, agreeing charges, and ensuring timely payment and income collection.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Must hold a full driving licence.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop teams.
  • Experience in public lighting management or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective business plans and work programmes.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of managing relationships across various departments and external parties.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to manage budgets and financial aspects of the service.
