Faculty / Directorate

Library and Student Services (LSS) is responsible for providing a wide and diverse range of services to all our students including Student Welfare, Careers & Employability, Digital Skills, Global Mobility and Learning Development and Support.

The Student Welfare Division includes International Student Support, Disability Advice and Support, Wellbeing, Mental Health, and the Mandala and No Space for Hate projects.

Role

We are looking to recruit an International Student Support Assistant to provide advice and guidance to international students as well as assisting with the running of events and activities, day trips, airport pickups, welcome and orientation activity and the i-Buddies befriending programme. In addition, the post-holder will be responsible for administering team finance and procurement systems, as well as developing and publishing social media content.

In order to support the provision of organised student social events and airport pickup activity, the postholder will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends (estimated 6 Saturdays per year).

The role is full time (37 hours per week) on a permanent basis.

Ideal Candidate

You will have proven experience of providing frontline advice and guidance. The post-holder will have excellent interpersonal, customer and communication skills and be able to engage with students with courtesy, clarity and empathy. You will require a high level of cultural awareness and be able to work effectively with students from a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds, many of whom will not speak English as a first language. In addition to welfare enquiries and casework, you will need to be comfortable engaging with larger groups of students -for example, presenting information sessions and workshops (both in-person and online) and running organised social events and off-campus day trips. International Student Support work in collaboration with stakeholders across the institution and the ability to liaise effectively with other university teams, as well as external agencies will be important.
