Gap Construction is proud to be representing a well-established main contractor in their search for a skilled and experienced Estimator in central Hertfordshire.

Projects will vary in nature but include high-profile, complex projects across the commercial, education, industrial, retail, and residential sectors in Hertfordshire and into London.

Performance Objectives

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects from initial stages through to completion.
  • Assess and analyse project specifications, drawings, and contracts to produce detailed and competitive bids.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets and ensure they are followed throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct detailed cost analysis and prepare variance reports, identifying potential risks and opportunities.
  • Lead procurement activities, ensuring cost-effective and timely purchasing of materials and services.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure all estimates and budgets align with project expectations.
  • Monitor project progress and adjust estimates as required to reflect any changes in scope or conditions.
  • Contribute to the development of tender documentation and evaluate bids for accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Ensure all estimating practices adhere to company standards, health and safety regulations, and contractual obligations.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of estimates, correspondence, and project documentation.

Person Specification

  • A degree or diploma in Estimating, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field is advantageous but not essential.
  • Proven experience in an Estimating role within the construction industry is essential.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Effective time management and organisational abilities to meet project deadlines.
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach with a focus on delivering results.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
  • A strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and costs is advantageous.
