Accounts Assistant Role Overview

Market leading SME organisation based in Leyland Preston are looking for an enthusiastic Accounts Assistant to help support the Management Accountant and wider finance team. As an Accounts Assistant you will be doing a varied roles covering all aspects of transactional finance including sales ledger and purchase ledge with month end duties supporting the month end process. This role will report into the Financial Controller and will give the right person a great opportunity to build on there experience.

Accounts Assistant Responsibilities:

Sales Ledger /Credit Control Duties:

  • To ensure the accurate and timely banking of all cash and cheque receipts.
  • Reconciliation of daily bank statement receipts.
  • Accurate recording and reconciliation of all receipts to sales ledger accounts.
  • Producing month end reports and printing of customer statements.
  • Contacting customers by telephone and post to ensure the control of any outstanding debts.
  • Following company credit check procedures for new credit account applications.
  • Reconciliation of Sales Ledger to General Ledger control accounts

Purchase Ledger Duties

  • Daily reconciliation and recording of bank statement payments
  • Scanning, registering, distribution and allocation of purchase ledger invoices through computerised purchase ledger system.
  • Reconciliation of supplier statements.
  • Producing month end reports and balancing of control accounts.
  • Payment runs by bacs, cheque and faster payments to outstanding creditors and allocation of these payments to purchase ledger accounts.
  • Undertake monthly bank reconciliations as requested.

General Month End Accounts Duties:

  • Control of Petty Cash issue, ensuring receipts for all cash taken and the balancing of petty cash throughout the month.
  • To develop skills within the department including gaining experience with stock management,  sales, purchase and nominal ledger (including journal posting), collation of information for VAT returns.
  • Dealing with sundry requests/projects requested by the  Accountant, Finance Manager and Finance Director, or a member of the Management Team.

Accounts Assistant Required Experience:

  • Previous experience of working within a similar finance role with both sales and purchase ledger experience
  • A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • AAT Part qualified / qualified
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks accordingly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and team members.
  • An enthusiastic, positive, and can-do approach to tasks.
