Role: Logistics & Freight Manager
Reports to: Operations Director
Location: Leyland, Preston
Salary: 35,000 (D.O.E) + Benefits
Hours: 08:00 - 16:30, Monday to Friday

The Logistics & Freight Manager is responsible for organising the storage and distribution of goods, ensuring that products are delivered to the right location on time, at the required quality, and in the most cost-effective way. The role also involves transportation, stock control, warehousing, and monitoring the overall flow of goods.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan, manage, and evaluate logistics operations, liaising with internal stakeholders, suppliers, logistics providers, transportation companies, and customers
  • Create and implement best practice logistics policies, processes, and procedures to improve operational and financial performance
  • Deliver solutions to logistics challenges while maintaining high levels of quality and service within budgetary requirements
  • Ensure all completed orders are despatched on time and products are shipped appropriately to maintain quality during transit
  • Negotiate rates and contracts with transportation and logistics providers
  • Recommend optimal transport modes, routes, and frequencies
  • Allocate and manage staff resources based on changing needs to optimise performance and meet targets and deadlines
  • Set departmental objectives/KPIs and assess the ongoing performance of direct reports
  • Ensure carrier compliance with company policies and procedures for product transit and delivery
  • Resolve issues related to transportation, logistics systems, imports/exports, and customer concerns
  • Attend daily meetings to share logistics updates and discuss operational impacts such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes, or carrier changes
  • Identify inefficiencies and cost-saving opportunities while working within legislative constraints and environmental considerations
  • Maintain inventory accuracy and manage stock movements both on-site and at external storage locations
  • Identify and resolve inventory discrepancies, ensuring system records align with actual stock levels
  • Monitor and manage slow-moving and obsolete stock
  • Lead logistics projects aimed at improving efficiency, resilience, and performance
  • Interpret trends, analyse data, and provide meaningful logistics insights to support customer service and cost improvements
  • Ensure IT systems are effective, well-maintained, and accurate
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety and environmental policies to ensure the safety and well-being of staff and visitors
