Ledger and Payroll Supervisor

We are looking for a dedicated Accounts Payable Supervisor to lead our Accounts Payable team within the Finance department. The successful candidate will ensure the smooth operation of the purchase ledger, expenses, and cash book functions, coordinating tasks to ensure timely closure of ledgers at month- and year-end. This role is pivotal as a primary contact for external audit teams in these areas. The ideal candidate will also have history and a strong understanding of UK Payroll processes.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Coordinate the Accounts Payable team to ensure timely and accurate processing of purchase invoices and reconciliations.
  • Authorise invoices and payments, ensuring suppliers are paid by the appropriate method on agreed payment days.
  • Manage month-end and year-end procedures, including reconciliations and reporting.
  • Oversee the cash book, ensuring transactions are posted accurately and bank accounts are reconciled regularly.
  • Process and pay staff expenses and company credit cards, ensuring all transactions are authorised and documented.
  • Administer payroll functions, including processing joiners and leavers, and ensuring accurate submission of statutory returns.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the payables team, setting objectives, providing feedback, and conducting one-to-one meetings.
  • Engage in project work and suggest improvements to procedures within your areas of responsibility.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in an Accounts Payable role with leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of purchase ledger, cash book.
  • Strong understanding of monthly payroll processes, and UK payroll legislations.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in finance software and MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage a team effectively.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
