The Role of the Shift Engineer

Shift Pattern: 4 x days 06:00-18:00 / 3 x rest days / 4 x nights 18:00-06:00 / 5 x rest days

Duties and Tasks for the Shift Engineer:

  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance on machinery, robotic systems, and conveyors.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system issues.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain PLCs and automated systems.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities and manage spare parts inventory.
  • Train production staff on machinery operation and maintenance.

The Shift Engineer

  • Qualified Electrical Engineer (minimum 2 years)
  • Minimum 2 years' experience of working within the Food & Drink sector
  • Candidate should be electrically biased but skilled in both electrical and mechanical disciplines
  • Experience of planned preventative maintenance systems
  • Experience of fault finding with industrial machinery
  • Experience of interpreting both mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Experience of shift working
  • Served a full engineering apprenticeship and/or qualification of NVQ level 3 or equivalent
