API Developer with AWS- Outside IR35 contract

(once per week in Lichfield, this will then ease up to once per month)

Javascript / REST APIs / SQL / AWS / Python

A leading organisation are are embarking on an exciting program of transformation, including the modernisation of key informational systems and business processes looking to build out a new Agile Team to develop Data Services within AWS. This is an opportunity to be a major player in re-architecting and modernising core data services to empower the business and our onward transformational journey.

Responsibilities

  • Working within an Agile multidisciplinary team structure to plan and support definition, coding and deployment of Python and Java Script based REST APIs within an efficient and scalable software delivery pipeline to create domain services natively on AWS
  • Identify, develop, document, deliver and modify high-performance APIs and programs using Python and Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Manage the API release lifecycle, including versioning, documenting and enabling 3rd party integration.
  • Integrate new code into existing continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery/deployment (CD) pipelines.
  • Ensure API security and authentication mechanisms are robust.
  • Monitor API performance and promptly troubleshooting issues.
  • Participate in or lead functional, regression and load testing as defined in the test specifications, including event logging, and reporting of results.

Essential skills:

  • Extensive experience of developing APIs using Python, Javascript, OpenAPI and AWS API Gateway
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of databases, both SQL and NoSQL
  • Solid understanding of REST and Rest Oriented Architecture (ROA)
  • Experience of developing AWS Lambda functions and co-ordination using Step Functions
  • Ability to develop following TDD and Continuous Security principles.
  • Use software delivery tools for source code management (Git/BitBucket) and project management (Jira, Trello and similar)
  • Experienced in Object Oriented, Service Oriented Architectures Design Patterns
