Description

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced finance professional to take ownership of financial operations while working in a dynamic, growing SME. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will play a key role in ensuring financial compliance, supporting strategic growth, and mentoring a developing finance team. Key responsibilities include:

Accounting & Bookkeeping Oversight
  • Oversee monthly bank reconciliations (carried out by a trainee accountant).

  • Provide payroll data and manage debtor collection/credit control.

Financial Compliance & Reporting
  • Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns.

  • Monitor and forecast cash flow.

  • Liaise with external accountants to ensure timely account submissions.

  • Oversee annual reporting to Companies House and support budgeting processes.

Strategic Financial Leadership
  • Work with the Finance Director on upscaling and process improvements.

  • Plan and secure financing arrangements when required.

  • Advise on dividend planning and regulatory compliance.

  • Conduct margin analysis and provide strategic insights.

  • Contribute to sustainability planning and performance improvements.

Team Development & Management
  • Mentor and support the bookkeeper to develop their skills.

Profile

We are seeking a financial professional with a balance of technical expertise and strategic insight to drive the company's financial success. The ideal candidate will have:

* Professional accounting qualifications (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA).* Experience in financial control, compliance, and long-term financial planning.* A proactive and hands-on approach, with the ability to manage both detailed financial processes and high-level strategy.* Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly in working with senior leadership and mentoring junior team members.* A proven track record of improving financial processes and supporting business growth.* Familiarity with SMEs and the challenges of scaling a business (preferred).
