Learning Support Assistant (ASD/SPD)

We are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join our team at a mainstream secondary school in Littlehampton. The position is situated at a special support facility funded by the local authority working with students who have an EHCP for either Autism Spectrum Disorder or Semantic Pragmatic Disorder. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about developing professionally as an educator and supporting young people with special educational needs. The initial pay scale (£20,489) has four spinal points and increments are awarded in September until the top of the pay scale is reached.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide tailored support to students with social and communication needs, enabling them to attend mainstream classes alongside their peers.
  • Work closely with educational staff to implement therapeutic interventions that address the individual needs of each student.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of an inclusive curriculum that accommodates the needs of all students.
  • Monitor and support the progress of students, ensuring they achieve their full potential in a supportive environment.
  • Collaborate with a team of professionals who are committed to making a significant impact on the lives of students.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children or young adults, particularly those on the autistic spectrum or with communication disorders.
  • Understanding of the educational and social challenges faced by students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Semantic Pragmatic Disorder.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Commitment to professional development and a proactive approach to learning new skills.
