Reed Accountancy have recently began working with a business who are looking for an assistant accountant to join their team. The right candidate will possess all the below experience and will be in a position to hit the ground running with minimal supervision and be able to work alone or as part of a team. 

Primary Duties:

  • Oversee daily financial activities, ensuring precise record-keeping, reconciliations, and prompt financial reporting.
  • Generate comprehensive management accounts and financial statements to aid business decisions.
  • Examine profit and loss figures to spot significant trends, collaborating with business leaders to provide insights that drive strategic growth and profitability.
  • Regularly assess, refine, and enhance internal processes and controls to boost operational efficiency and ensure compliance.
  • Identify automation opportunities and implement innovative solutions to streamline workflows, reduce manual tasks, and improve accuracy.
  • Manage VAT return preparation and submission to relevant authorities, coordinate payroll and pension details with external providers, and ensure compliance with other statutory obligations.
  • Handle accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely processing, accurate record-keeping, and optimal cash flow management.
  • Assist in the completion of annual accounts and work with external accountants to facilitate year-end reporting, including being solely responsible for the completion of accounts for two smaller subsidiaries within the group.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an assistant accountant or in a similar role, fully qualified or qualified by experience, with a desire to advance.
  • Strong background in management accounts, reporting, and business acumen.
  • Excellent data analysis and communication skills.
  • Advanced system skills, including proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, etc.).
  • Resilient and proactive in overcoming challenges and driving process improvements.
  • Experience with Sage is advantageous.
