The Role

Our Client is seeking an experienced Project Manager - City Development to support its City Development improvement programme, focusing on transformational work across Planning, Highways, Investment, and Development. This critical role will lead and coordinate improvement projects aligned with the council's strategic goals, supporting better organisational design, workforce development, and service delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing improvement initiatives across city development functions
  • Supporting projects related to organisational design, staff training, office accommodation, and business planning
  • Coordinating cross-departmental efforts to align with strategic and operational objectives
  • Monitoring project progress, ensuring timely delivery and stakeholder engagement
  • Preparing reports and briefings for senior management and decision-makers
  • Supporting change management and continuous improvement efforts

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in project management, preferably in local government or public sector environments
  • Strong background in organisational change and service transformation
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams and conflicting priorities
  • Confidence working with senior leaders and elected members
  • Strong reporting, planning, and problem-solving skills

Desirable:

  • Experience working in Planning, Highways, or Regeneration sectors
  • A relevant Project Management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile, APM)
