About the Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for graduates to gain invaluable classroom experience by working as a Teaching Assistant in Secondary schools across Liverpool, supporting high-attaining students. This role is ideal for those considering a career in science education, providing hands-on experience before pursuing a teacher training program.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with high-attaining students, helping them extend their understanding of complex scientific concepts and achieve excellence in STEM subjects. You will collaborate with experienced teachers to provide enrichment opportunities, challenge students academically, and foster a passion for science.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support high-attaining students in science lessons, helping them explore advanced topics in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging, challenging, and thought-provoking science lessons.
  • Lead small group sessions and one-to-one tutoring for students excelling in STEM subjects.
  • Set up and assist with science experiments and practical demonstrations, enhancing hands-on learning experiences.
  • Encourage critical thinking and independent research among high-achieving students.
  • Develop strong relationships with students, inspiring them to excel in science and consider STEM careers.
  • Provide academic mentoring and guidance for students preparing for exams, university applications, and STEM competitions.
  • Gain first-hand experience of advanced teaching strategies, lesson planning, and differentiated instruction.

Requirements:

  • A degree in a Science-related subject (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or related fields).
  • A strong interest in science education, with aspirations to become a qualified teacher.
  • Previous experience working with high-attaining students (e.g. tutoring, mentoring, academic coaching) is beneficial but not essential.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to challenge and inspire students.
  • A passion for STEM subjects and a commitment to fostering academic excellence.
  • A current enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).
