The Health, Safety and Environmental Manager is a divisional leader at the organisations in-house construction and responsive repairs contractor with two direct reports, a HS&E Business Partner and a HS&E Advisor.

Our client is one of the largest housing providers in the North West, employing over 1,000 individuals. With a strong commitment to community development, the company operates in several locations across the North West with offices in Merseyside.

Description

Some of the key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Ensure that the organisation complies with and meets with all its' obligations under all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental Legislation.
  • Ensure that the organisation is aware of and in a position to respond to changes is to Health, Safety and Environmental and changes in industry practice.
  • Provide leadership and direction to Health, Safety and Environmental functions in order to ensure the effective delivery of HS&E support services across the business.
  • Ensure that the senior management team are fully engaged in health, safety, wellbeing, and environmental leadership; that they understand performance, emerging incident trends and learn from them to avoid reoccurrences.
  • Engage with all stakeholders to ensure that operational health, safety and environmental plans are developed for each of the operational areas of the organisation.
  • Through a business partnering model ensure that sufficient capacity and technical expertise are provided to support operational teams in delivering their operational health, safety and environmental improvement plans and fulfilling their statutory (and Group Policy mandated) Health, Safety and Environmental responsibilities.
  • Lead the strategic direction of the Group's Safety Management Systems in order to ensure that they are developed, implemented and tested and monitored to the standards required by the organisation.
  • Drive process innovation within the organisation in the areas of the HS&E Management in order to demonstrate best value in the functions of the internal DLO's HS&E Support team.
  • Develop an organisation wide programme of audit and assurance of Health, Safety & Environmental infrastructure, and practice.
  • Be responsible for the maintenance of the organisation's certified management standards; in particular, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 9001 and any other appropriate accreditations the Group applies for.
  • Act as lead contact with Regulatory Bodies including HSE, Environment Agency and Fire Authorities and ensure all reportable accidents/ incidents are reported within required timeframes.

Profile

A successful Health & Safety Manager should have:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in health, safety and environment or a related field.
  • Professional membership with a relevant HSE body.
  • Proven experience in managing HSE in a large organisation.
  • A comprehensive understanding of HSE legislation and best practice.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders.
