Our client is on the lookout for an experienced Accountant with exceptional people skills to come in and help fill the role of Associate Business Partner on a temporary basis. The ideal candidate doesn't necessarily need to hold an accredited qualification but must be working towards one at least and have plenty experience working within the role. Within this role you will holding and attending regular meetings with senior members across Schools & University Faculties to monitor their actual income & expenditure.

Responsibilities
  • Attend regular meetings with budget holders and other stakeholders to review forecast out-turn against budgets/targets, proactively identifying issues and providing explanations for variances as required.
  • Monitor actual income/expenditure and provide guidance to the Faculty /School PVC/Director and other senior staff to adjust planned expenditure to reflect changing circumstances.
  • Provide timely, accurate and relevant management information to budget holders/project managers and other stakeholders in a focused and user-orientated way, to support effective budget and project management (Research/Enterprise) and decision making.
  • Work collaboratively with ELT and budget holders to allow them to effectively manage their budgets and be fully accountable for them, providing training and other guidance where necessary.
  • Prepare and input accruals/prepayments for month end reporting.
  • Production of Power BI reports to enhance information being provided to budget holders.
  • Support staff to cost potential new Research and Enterprise activity in conjunction with the Finance Business Operations
  • Ensure that project costing's completed for externally funded projects comply with the sponsors' terms and conditions and that the proposed budget has been appropriately calculated and presented prior to approval.
  • Liaise with Research and Enterprise Project Managers to ensure budgets for projects are phased accurately and income is appropriately categorised to achieve strategic objectives of the University.
  • Liaise with the Finance Business Operations team to ensure appropriate information is available and accurately recorded to meet the needs of external funders and regulators.
  • Develop and maintain business partnering networks across the departments to progress and improve standards of financial management and information for decision making.
  • Contribute to a process of continual improvement to enhance financial stewardship and control, up skilling budget holders and building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure costs and income are complete and accurately recorded in the finance system and ensure any appropriate correction journals are transacted and the root cause of the error addressed.
  • Ensure year-end procedures and schedules are completed in accordance with the year-end timetable and assist in the preparation of the University's statutory accounts.

Requirements
  • 5+ Years of Accountancy Experience.
  • Exceptional People Skills.
  • Hold a valid ACCA, ACA, CIMA or ICAS Qualification (or be working towards one).
  • Previous experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to work manage your own workload.
