An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Principal Engineer to join the Facilities & EHS department. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, conducting risk assessments, delivering training, and driving continuous improvement across EHS systems and initiatives.

The Role

Reporting to the Facilities & EHS Manager, the EHS Principal Engineer will work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring the EHS Management Systems in compliance with legislation.
  • Keeping up to date with EHS regulations and advising senior management on compliance requirements.
  • Conducting audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are in place.
  • Supporting the EHS Committee to ensure clear communication and consultation on health, safety, and environmental matters.
  • Managing EHS training programs to ensure compliance across the organisation.
  • Overseeing incident response procedures and ensuring the emergency response team is in place.
  • Ensuring compliance in key environmental areas such as:
    • PPC Air Permitting, Trade Effluent Wastewater, and Hazardous Waste Management
    • ISO14001 environmental management systems and audits
    • Chemical storage, handling, and emergency planning
  • Overseeing safety measures including:
    • ISO45001 safety management systems and audits
    • Laser Safety, Ionising Radiation, and RF Safety
    • Incident investigation, emergency management, and hazardous chemical handling

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • 5+ years of experience as an EHS Principal Engineer in a manufacturing, oil, or chemical industry setting.
  • A NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent qualification) in Health & Safety.
  • A STEM degree (Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of ISO14001 and ISO45001 standards, including experience in audit compliance.
  • Membership of a professional body such as IOSH or IEMA.
  • Experience in risk assessments, COSHH, accident investigation, and problem-solving techniques.
  • A solid understanding of regulatory bodies and compliance requirements.
  • Project management skills with the ability to drive EHS initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.

Desirable:

  • Semiconductor manufacturing experience would be a plus.
