We have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Financial Controller to join our organisation’s finance team. In this pivotal role, you will support senior leadership in ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of financial statements, leading the statutory audit process, and maintaining strong relationships with external auditors. This position offers the chance to make a lasting impact on financial performance and contribute to the strategic success of the organisation.

As the Deputy Financial Controller, you will assist the Financial Controller in managing and motivating the financial accounting team. You will play a crucial role in ensuring timely, compliant reporting for month-end and year-end processes, while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and transparency. A key focus will be on providing technical accounting expertise, leading audits, and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in overseeing the preparation of the organisation’s annual financial statements and lead statutory audit activities, from planning through to finalisation.
  • Act as the secondary point of contact for external auditors, ensuring smooth audit processes and maintaining robust financial records.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial reporting standards (such as FRS 102) and support various statutory returns, including international accounting requirements (e.g., US GAAP).
  • Assist in updating and communicating the organisation’s accounting policies, ensuring their effective application across all financial operations.
  • Identify and drive improvements to the financial control environment, working closely with internal auditors and senior management.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Financial Accounting team, ensuring high performance, continuous development, and operational efficiency.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Be a fully qualified accountant with significant post-qualification experience.
  • Have a proven track record in financial leadership, including technical expertise in financial reporting and audit management.
  • Experienced in leading and developing teams within a complex organisation.
  • A confident people Manager who can demonstrate a clear ability to manage and motivate teams, while building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experienced leading on financial controls and process improvements within a large and complex environment (please note experience from a highly regulated environment is preferable but not essential).
