Job purpose ï‚·
- To assist the Centre Manager with financial management and general operational support for the Centre. ï‚·
- To maintain a portfolio of research oncology accounts and being responsible for a range of post-award research finance activities from study set-up to closure - Ensuring there is a robust system of up-to-date income/invoicing and expenditure records in place for audit and reporting purposes for both the CTU and the CRDG. ï‚·
- To oversee day-to-day accounting procedures and recording all financial transactions accurately. ï‚·
- To work as a member of the Institute’s administrative team, being mutually supportive and covering duties as necessary during colleagues’ absences and at times of additional pressure, as directed.
Main duties and responsibilities General Duties ï‚·
- To ensure the smooth running of the day-to-day financial activities of the Centre (dealing with financial transactions, including issuing/paying invoices; processing credit card payments; staff expense claims).
- To assist with the preparation of grant applications, including ensuring that applications comply with the varied requirements of the different funding bodies, comply with College/Trust authorisation procedures, and adhering to strict deadlines. ï‚·
- To maintain, develop and manage databases/spreadsheets as required to ensure effective audit trails. ï‚·
- Monitor expenditure and to assist the Centre Manager in developing cost saving strategies where possible. ï‚·
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting when financial returns or reports are required. ï‚·
- Assist the Centre Manager with the annual budget planning process. ï‚·
- To develop robust financial reporting systems as well as databases to maintain accurate records of the Centre’s finances. 

Qualifications
Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade A-C including in English and Mathematics.
A level qualifications (or equivalent), or equivalent relevant experience.
Educated to degree level in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
Relevant postgraduate or professional qualification.
Experience/Knowledge
Experience of financial administration in a large organisation.
Experience of working in higher education or NHS
Experience of working in a clinical trial environment
Experience of working in an high pressurised, fast paced environment and working to tight deadline
Experience and knowledge of how to manage and reconcile budgets
Experience and knowledge of how to manage and reconcile clinical trial / research grants and budgets specifically
Skills/Abilities
High levels of IT skills, including spreadsheets, email, word processing and databases (Microsoft Office). Advanced keyboard skills for inputting and manipulating data and experience of using financial databases
Ability to process large financial datasets
Ability to prioritise a varied workload and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Proven ability of problem solving
Excellent written, verbal and numeracy skills
Excellent organisational skills
Ability to identify and analyse financial information, problems or potential problems, including complex problems, and to offer relevant solution.
Ability to manage, develop and monitor expenditure against a budget
Proven written and verbal communication skills with different staff groups, with the ability to discuss financial queries, which are often complex, including reasons for delays in payment and other sensitive issues.
Must demonstrate a critical and intelligent attention to detail and high standards of accuracy
Experience of planning and progressing work activities
