Role

The purpose of this role is to ensure effective financial and management accounting across the organisation by assisting the development of, and adherence to, financial controls and systems associated with the DCC business.

The Financial Accountant is responsible for the gathering and monitoring of financial data, preparing accurate management and statutory accounts, and other financial reporting and controls.

The Financial Accountant will support the Financial Controller in the delivery of the wider Finance team objectives and the implementation of continuous improvement across the function.

What will you be doing?

  • Performing necessary financial control activities, taking ownership of key process such as tracking and posting month-end journals, and performing Balance Sheet reconciliations and reporting.
  • Prepare and support DCC’s monthly management account process and analyse and review variances between actuals and forecast for your areas of the P&L.
  • Investigate unreconciled or aged items to identify issues and look to resolve and escalate where necessary.
  • Support in the year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial results and commentary on financial performance.
  • Assist in the internal and external audit process and preparation of statutory financial information.
  • Assist with any ad hoc projects to improve the Financial Control environment, challenging existing processes, and identifying and driving improvements as required.
  • Gain an understanding of the internal control environment, ensuring compliance with internal control policies and identifying and escalating risk areas.
  • Build key stakeholder relationships with key members of finance and the wider business.
  • Maintain relationships and collaborate with offshore teams to ensure reporting timelines are met and information is recorded in the correct period.
  • Assist in the performance of any other tasks as necessary.

What are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Professional accounting qualification either CIMA/ACA/ACCA with up to 1 year post qualified experience.
  • Strong academic record with excellent analytical skills.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge (IFRS, GAAP).
  • Experience in design delivery of the financial close process, financial reporting, and control.
  • Excellent organizational skills with experience of managing time to deliver on a number of projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and drive execution at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience of managing demanding stakeholders and influencing teams outside of direct function.
  • Demonstrates the ability to lead other internal stakeholders to help deliver a collective goal.
  • Be comfortable with a hybrid workplace, attending the office 8 days per month as a minimum.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in the energy, government, or telecommunications sectors desirable but not essential.
  • Experience of working in a regulated environment desirable but not essential.
  • Comfortable operating within a matrix reporting structure.
  • Experience of using SAP.
