Our client, a startup UK company with international reach, is looking for a Financial Controller to join their expanding London team. This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional with experience in marketing or professional services to take ownership of a finance function in a dynamic and growing business.

About the Company

As part of a wider group spanning Australia, New Zealand, and the USA, our client is an innovative and ambitious creative business. They are expanding rapidly in London and require a driven and commercially aware Financial Controller to drive efficiencies, improve processes, and manage the finance function.

The Role

Reporting directly to the UK CFO, you’ll be responsible for managing the finance team, including overseeing an Accounts Assistant, and playing a key role in shaping the department as the company grows. Over time, you will help to expand and develop a larger finance team while maintaining strong financial controls and providing commercial insights.

What We’re Looking For

  • A can-do attitude - comfortable rolling up your sleeves and tackling any financial challenge
  • ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience
  • Experience in marketing, advertising, or professional services is essential
  • Strong WIP & job costing experience - this is a must-have
  • A systems and process-driven mindset to enhance efficiency and reduce errors
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to add value beyond the numbers

Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll - Managing payroll processes with external providers, ensuring right-to-work compliance, and posting payroll journals
  • HMRC Compliance - VAT submissions, PAYE payments, and PSA submissions
  • Systems & Training - Supporting team members on job costing, estimating, and timesheets (we use Accountability)
  • Cashflow & Reporting - Updating cashflow forecasts, reconciling bank statements, and working with the CFO on funding requirements
  • Debtor/Creditor Management - Ensuring correct invoicing and liaising with account management teams
  • WIP Management - Attending WIP meetings, reconciling production jobs, and flagging any financial risks
  • Month-End & Year-End - Posting key journals, preparing management accounts, and supporting forecasting updates
  • Intercompany Reconciliations - Working with international finance teams to ensure accurate reporting
  • Managing an Accounts Assistant - Overseeing and mentoring the Accounts Assistant, ensuring their development and efficiency within the team
