Chilworth Partnership (also trading as Venture Recruitment Partners) are pleased to be supporting a large FTSE-listed organisation, based in London, in their search for a Head of Internal Audit on an 8-month fixed-term contract to cover a period of maternity leave.

Salary - £(phone number removed) + other benefits
London Head Office based 2 days a week with hybrid working and up to 30%
travel to other sites for audits as required.

The role will be to provide independent, objective assurance and consulting activity
designed to add value and improve operations by delivering an objective evaluation
of the existing internal financial, non-financial, and risk controls. The Head of Internal Audit will manage performance of all audit assignments review workpapers and audit reports and edit audit reports prepared by the internal IA team and any external IA reports. Schedules and plans audits and assesses risk, supports in
developing audit direction.

Key Accountabilities

  • Participate or lead audits to provide internal customers and stakeholders with assessments of governance, risk and internal control frameworks.
  • Agree clear scope/terms of reference and a work plan for audit projects with management that address key risks and controls to be reviewed.
  • Ensure that audits are completed in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with standards established by industry best practices and the relevant risk and regulatory environment.
  • Communicate root causes of identified issues, associated risks, including recommendations for improvements in business processes, on the current and future business model and operating environment and ensure that action plans are properly implemented by management.
  • Ensure that audit team members have a full and complete understanding of the nature and scope of the risks involved in the business by providing the necessary guidance, support and manage their performance throughout each audit. Motivate and support project team members so that they deliver consistent, high-quality performance.
  • Build trust and credibility with stakeholders to identify potential red flags/ insights to emerging risk and controls and where appropriate, challenge their views.
  • Participates in major business initiatives and pro-actively advises and assists the business on change initiatives. Undertake complex or sensitive audit work within projects.


About you:

  • Fully qualified professional (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) and CIA (or equivalent) candidates are of particular interest
  • Candidates should have proven leadership and people management skills, be able to demonstrate analytical thinking, sound judgement and attention to detail. This role will have significant engagement with Director level stakeholders both in the UK and overseas and therefore first-class stakeholder management, interpersonal and negotiation skills are essential.
  • Demonstrable experience of audit, risk and control experience.
  • Proactive mind set in understanding the overall business needs and changes.
  • Demonstrate analytical thinking, sound judgement and attention to detail.
  • Defence sector experience (desirable)
