We're partnering with a leading international development organisation dedicated to driving sustainable development through innovative projects across sectors such as health, education, climate change, and economic empowerment, to recruit an interim International Project Accountant.

As the International Project Accountant, you will play a critical role in the financial management of international development projects, ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and effective use of funds to meet project goals. The role is expected to last at least three months while the permanent position is recruited to and candidates are welcome to apply for the permanent also.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Management & Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate financial records and ledgers for assigned projects.
    • Prepare and submit timely and accurate financial reports to donors, management, and other stakeholders.
    • Monitor project budgets, including tracking expenses against the approved budget and preparing variance analyses.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:

    • Assist in the preparation of project budgets and forecasts in collaboration with project managers and other departments.
    • Support project teams in budget re-forecasting based on changing project needs or financial circumstances.
  • Compliance & Audit:

    • Ensure that all financial transactions comply with internal policies, donor guidelines, and statutory requirements.
    • Assist in the preparation for audits and respond to audit queries as needed.
  • Grant & Donor Management:

    • Liaise with donors on financial matters, ensuring proper financial management of donor funds.
    • Manage and track restricted and unrestricted funding across multiple grants and contracts.
  • Financial Controls:

    • Ensure strong internal controls and implement best practices for the financial management of development projects.
    • Conduct regular financial reviews and reconciliations of project accounts.
  • Capacity Building:

    • Provide financial training and support to project staff and local partners to ensure sound financial management practices.
  • Cash Flow Management:

    • Monitor cash flow requirements for projects and manage fund transfers between head office and field locations.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • ACCA/CIMA/ACA/CIPFA finalist or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in project accounting, ideally within international development or nonprofit sectors.
  • Knowledge of donor financial requirements (e.g., USAID, FCDO, UN agencies, World Bank, EU, etc.).
  • Experience in preparing financial reports for multiple donors and projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-cultural teams.
