This role is for Thames Luxury Charters who own and operate a fleet of luxury private charter vessels operating on the River Thames from our privately owned pier near Tower Bridge for over 30 years, presenting a selection of unique, luxury venues that are perfect for both personal and corporate events.

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Management Accountant to join our friendly team based in the vibrant Shad Thames area and be part of a successful and fast paced company.

This role is based on a Monday-Friday working week with flexibility to work 1 day from home.

The Management Accountant will play a crucial role in supporting the financial health of Thames Luxury Charters. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and financial analysis techniques. The Management Accountant will be responsible for a wide range of financial activities, including event-specific financial analysis, general ledger maintenance, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting

  • Oversee the sales and purchase ledgers.
  • Process invoices, credit notes, and payments.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and manage debtor collections.
  • Prepare and process bi-monthly payment runs.
  • Complete month-end procedures, including reconciliations, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Prepare monthly budget reports with variance analysis.
  • Manage VAT compliance.

Payroll

  • Prepare and process monthly payroll and pensions.
  • Address inquiries from HMRC regarding payroll matters.

Banking & Cash Flow

  • Perform daily bank reconciliations.
  • Manage petty cash and credit card activities.
  • Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts.

Financial Planning & Reporting

  • Assist in the production of monthly and annual financial statements reporting packages.
  • Participate in budgeting and forecasting activities to support financial planning.

Event Financial Analysis

  • Analyse financial data for individual events, including revenue streams, cost breakdowns, and profitability metrics.
  • Conduct variance analysis to compare actual results with budgeted figures and forecasts.
  • Identify areas for cost reduction and revenue growth through financial analysis.
  • Develop and present financial reports to senior management, highlighting key performance indicators and recommendations.

Fixed Assets

  • Maintain the fixed asset register.
  • Calculate and post depreciation expense.

Other Duties

  • Assist with filing and other general administrative tasks.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for accounting software queries within the team.
  • Provide training to new members of the Finance team.

Qualifications

  • Accounting qualification (minimum Level 4)

Knowledge, Understanding and Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role (ideally minimum 3 years experience)
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial analysis techniques
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly adept at MS Office - especially Excel
  • Proficiency in accounting software Xero (desirable)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
