Magic Breakfast is seeking an Interim Senior Accountant to support its financial operations and help drive its mission to end child morning hunger. The charity provides over 300,000 children across the UK with a nutritious breakfast every school day, ensuring that hunger does not become a barrier to learning.

About the Role

The Interim Accountant will oversee key financial processes such as month-end reporting, VAT returns, payroll, and financial planning for FY25/26. They will play a crucial role in managing restricted funds, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and working closely with the Head of Finance to maintain robust financial controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the month-end close process and manage the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Oversee the timely submission of VAT returns and pension liabilities
  • Support financial planning and ensure alignment with strategic goals
  • Manage restricted funds, ensuring compliance with donor requirements
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and charity sector best practices

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A part-qualified or degree in Accounting (ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA)
  • Strong experience in financial planning, month-end close, and restricted fund management
  • In-depth knowledge of Charities SORP and financial regulations in the non-profit sector
  • High attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
