The Role

  • Reporting to the Head of Commercial Finance, this is an exciting opportunity to join a private equity backed, multi-site, media business which is growing both in the UK and internationally.
  • This role represents an excellent chance for a qualified accountant with end to end Capex governance experience to act as the finance business partner to multiple areas of the business, acting as the key Finance liaison for transformational areas of the company.
  • As the Capex process owner you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of capital expenditure accounting, including governance, budgeting, financial analysis, approval process, reporting & compliance.
  • You will be key in driving the success and direction of the organisation’s global Property and Technology investment, owning the end-to-end Capex process.
  • Additionally, as the Finance owner for Central Functions you will oversee the financial management of the global cost base, responsible for developing the cost allocation process to best represent investment across the business and to support transfer pricing optimisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Global Capex Process Owner
  • Capital Expenditure management; oversee the entire Capex process ensuring accurate & consistent tracking and reporting of capex activities across the group
  • Collaborate with Property & IT PMO to monitor capital budgets.
  • Managing the Capex approvals process, identifying & implementing improvements
  • Developing reporting & analysis of Approvals, Commitments, Project Status and Latest Estimates
  • Leading development of the accounting process, Fixed Asset Register and PPE reporting
  • Developing & enforcing policies & procedures across the group
  • Financial reporting & analysis; prepare & enhance monthly and annual reports, providing regular forecasts
  • In depth financial analysis to support strategic decision making regarding capital investments.
  • Partner with Property & Technology teams to maximise the efficacy and profitability of capital expenditure
  • Review business cases to support and advise on commercial opportunities
  • Budgeting & Forecasting; develop and maintain financial models to forecast capex needs
  • Work with PMOs and other key stakeholders to prepare annual capex budget
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS etc.
  • Coordinate with external auditors at year end
  • Partner Corporate Overheads; track, monitor & analyse overhead costs & ensure accurate allocation of overhead expenses across department & territory
  • Financial reporting & analysis; prepare detailed monthly & annual reports on overhead expenditure, UK & Group
  • Collaborate with Commercial Finance to conduct variance analysis and identify trends & discrepancies in overhead costs
  • Provide insights and recommendations to improve cost efficiency
  • Acting as Finance Manager and partner to budget owners to deliver timely financial information and providing insight into spend against budget
  • Support the Head of Commercial Finance to provide analysis & insight to the SLT
  • Lead the preparation of the annual budget for the group & UK central functions though coordination with the Commercial Finance Team
  • Develop & maintain financial models for forecasting overhead expenses
  • Monitor actual expenses against budget, variance analysis
  • Process improvement; maintain, develop and implement intercompany cost allocation methodology to support Transfer Pricing & cost control
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and process efficiencies, develop best practice
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures relating to overhead accounting
  • Implement strong internal controls to safeguard company assets

Successful Applicant

  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified, or equivalent
  • Experience managing end-to-end Capex processes and reporting in a business that undertakes a significant amount of Capex work
  • Proven track record of implementing and improving processes
  • Able to hit the ground running, get up to speed quickly to deliver results in a fast-paced, quick-turnaround environment
  • Able to influence senior stakeholders
  • Strong preference for experience working for a Private Equity backed company
  • Strong financial modelling skills (with the opportunity to support business case development if desired)
  • Advanced Excel
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Knowledge of Finance Systems, in particular TM1 an advantage
  • Strong intellect combined with attention to detail; well organised and process driven
  • Straightforward, open personality and an enthusiastic, positive attitude
  • Adaptable and keen to learn
  • Confident and clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexibility to work autonomously and in teams
