As Assistant Director of Community Safety, Resilience & CCTV you will lead and manage the Community Safety Service within the Public Realm, contributing to the Environment Division's leadership.This role involves chairing Safety Advisory Groups, translating Council priorities into business plans, and providing expert advice to senior officials. Key responsibilities include overseeing community safety strategies, managing CCTV and emergency planning, commissioning services for survivors of violence, and leading teams to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.The role requires strong partnership development, strategic planning, budget management, and adherence to Council policies on equal opportunities and customer care.Overview
  • Lead and manage the Community Safety Service.
  • Contribute to the leadership of the Environment Division.
  • Chair Safety Advisory Groups for local clubs.
  • Translate Council priorities into the Place Department’s Business Plan.
  • Provide expert advice to senior officials and members.
  • Represent the Community Safety Partnership at safeguarding boards.
  • Develop partnerships to enhance service delivery.
  • Lead staff to achieve departmental goals.
  • Plan and lead emergency response policies.
  • Manage a budget exceeding £10m and a team of 130 FTEs.
  • Deputise for the Director of Public Realm as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead Community Safety Strategy and Law Enforcement Team.
  • Oversee CCTV management and emergency planning.
  • Commission services for survivors of Violence Against Women and Girls.
  • Lead the Gangs, Violence & Exploitation Unit and Anti-Social Behaviour Team.
  • Negotiate with regional and national bodies.
  • Manage community safety coordination and policy consultations.
  • Develop relationships with statutory partners.
  • Advocate for the Council and manage contracts.
  • Promote cross-departmental working and information sharing.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive data.

  • Ability to manage resources efficiently, especially in crises.
