With an exciting pipeline of projects across London, they are looking to strengthen their team by adding a Design Manager to support and lead the design processes.

Role Overview:

As a Design Manager, you will be responsible for managing the design process from pre-construction through to project completion, ensuring that design solutions meet client requirements, budgetary constraints, and project timelines. You will collaborate closely with internal teams, clients, architects, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure seamless design coordination and successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Coordination: Lead and manage the design process on residential and education new build projects, coordinating with architects, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of design information.
  • Pre-Construction Involvement: Work closely with the pre-construction and bid teams, providing technical advice and ensuring that design proposals align with project specifications and budgetary constraints.
  • Value Engineering: Identify and implement value engineering opportunities to optimize design solutions without compromising on quality.
  • Programme Management: Develop and manage the design programme, ensuring that all design activities are completed in line with project milestones.
  • Risk Management: Proactively identify and mitigate design-related risks, ensuring that potential issues are addressed early in the project lifecycle.
  • Design Review: Regularly review and approve design documents, ensuring that they meet client expectations, building regulations, and quality standards.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all design solutions comply with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, including building regulations, planning permissions, and sustainability targets.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Design Manager within the construction industry, ideally with a focus on residential and/or education new build projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of design processes, building regulations, and construction methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with architects, consultants, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Experience in leading the design process from tender through to project completion.
  • Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling) processes and software is desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage and mitigate design risks.
  • A degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related construction discipline is preferred.
