Our client, a leading provider of transport solutions, is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Design Manager to join their MEPHFC Design Team. This permanent role within the rail industry focuses on station building services design and coordination. As a Design Manager, you will support the Associate Director and lead a team of Engineers, overseeing the production and delivery of MEPHFC designs.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading a high-performing team through effective management, development, and empowerment
  • Managing internal and external resources to meet contract requirements and client expectations
  • Establishing and managing Technical Assurance processes in line with project and client needs
  • Maintaining control of project programmes and implementing mitigation measures for any slippage
  • Ensuring compliance with NR-L2-RSE-02009 for governance of CEM and CREs
  • Reviewing design documentation to mitigate construction risks at the design stage
  • Producing design deliverables in compliance with British Standards & Eurocodes
  • Coordinating and managing design information production in a 3D environment to BIM Standards
  • Managing CDM and CSM-REA requirements to mitigate risks ALARP
  • Liaising with Project and Commercial Managers to produce and issue project communications
  • Producing progress reports and ensuring consistency across projects
  • Promoting sustainable design and development, as well as digital solutions and innovation


Job Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Member of an engineering institute with Engineering Council Professional Registration
  • Experience in Engineering/Technical functions and Design Management, with significant experience in the rail industry
  • Proven ability to manage design for rail projects in multi-disciplinary environments
  • Exemplary management skills, including support, mentoring, and leadership of a project team
  • Capability in managing design interfaces, integration processes, and design assurance requirements
  • Understanding of project scopes, excellent commercial awareness, and ability to deliver work to schedule and budget
  • Strong communication, organisational, and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in leading meetings and presentations to various stakeholders
  • Commitment to professional development and staying updated on industry trends and best practices
