Building on the success of Hinkley Point C, the SZC Project is a nuclear new-build initiative in Suffolk that has received planning approval and government financial backing. Now progressing through construction and seeking private investment, this project will provide reliable electricity for 6 million homes for the next 60 years, supporting Britain's Net Zero ambitions.
About the Role
As a Design Manager within the Civil Works Programme (CWP), you will play a key role in managing and coordinating the end-to-end design process for your specific scope area. You will oversee the technical aspects of design development, ensuring quality, constructability, and integration across multiple disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
* Define and validate technical requirements and specifications in collaboration with engineering stakeholders.
* Manage design changes, technical assurance, and open points, ensuring alignment with project governance and integration frameworks.
* Lead and coordinate technical inputs from key stakeholders, including Responsible Designers, project teams, and technical authorities.
* Ensure all design deliverables are well-coordinated within a 3D environment and meet quality assurance standards.
* Manage technical risks and contribute to project risk management processes.
* Support contract management activities, including handling technical queries, early warnings, and compensation events.
* Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and lead technical teams to deliver safe and effective designs.
What We're Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Strong expertise in ground engineering, including earthworks, drainage, foundations, and construction logistics.
* Proven experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary designs, from concept to construction.
* Technical leadership in design integration, coordination, and stakeholder management.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills across management, technical teams, and external stakeholders.
Desirable Experience:
* Experience in the nuclear sector, particularly safety-related structures, systems, and components.
Qualifications
Essential
* Honours Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
* Chartered Engineer status (MICE or MIStructE) or working towards chartership.
Desirable
* Experience leading the design of large-scale infrastructure projects, particularly in nuclear energy (e.g., Hinkley Point C).
