Our client, a leader in the water industry, is looking for a Design Manager to join their team. This role involves working on large pipeline schemes within a long-term framework for a major water utility, covering both Capital Enhancement and Maintenance projects. The Design Manager will oversee the design process from concept to implementation, report to the Framework Manager, and help build a new team focused on delivering key business values.
Experience Required for Design Manager:
- Previous experience in design and management of potable water mains
- Strong working knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and common data environments
- Degree or HNC in civil engineering (or equivalent)
- Membership (or working towards membership) of a recognized engineering institution, such as Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members
- Self-motivated, results-driven, and positive in approach
- Experience in people management, time management, and project design management.
Responsibilities of Design Manager:
- Oversee the technical integrity of project solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure design compliance with customer and statutory standards, regulations, and specifications.
- Manage external consultants, ensuring contract requirements are met and appropriate actions are taken if not.
- Develop reliable, maintainable asset designs that meet project objectives.
- Lead multi-discipline teams, including internal engineers, consultants, and partners.
- Manage project engineering budgets, schedules, and implement change control processes.
- Ensure all engineering outputs comply with health and safety regulations, quality systems, and client standards.
- Evaluate designs and solutions, and support supply chain selection for specialist input.
- Collaborate with technical, operational, maintenance, and strategic stakeholders.
- Liaise with Framework Manager, Project Managers, and consultants on project issues, scope changes, and risks.
- Understand and manage temporary works design responsibilities.
- Ensure adherence to the company’s Code of Conduct and promote safe, compliant working practices.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful work environment, encouraging teamwork and continuous improvement.
