If so, Signature Recruitment has an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician Assistant at a prestigious London university. This is a temporary, part-time position based on campus starting soon and running through to mid-February 2025, with the possibility to extend. The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday mornings - approximately 20 hours per week.

In this role as a Laboratory Technician Assistant, you will be working as part of an exciting project furthering trials into dementia research. You will primarily be responsible for supporting the sampling process working with human saliva, urine, blood and faeces. Due to the nature of this work, it is imperative that you have had the three course Hepatitis B vaccine.

Laboratory Technician Assistant Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Senior Laboratory Technician and confidently working and liaising with other staff on the clinical team showing a good understanding of health and safety regulations and the impacts of laboratory work
  • Providing up-to-date technical support to a very high standard in sampling, processing and storage of biomaterial including human saliva, urine, blood and faeces. To include centrifuging, allocating to tubes, labelling and freezing
  • Assisting with clinical procedures carried out by the healthcare team as part of a research study, such as measuring and recording volunteers’ physiological measurements
  • Ensuring all information and details are correctly and accurately recorded
  • Developing a full knowledge and input into improvements in the relevant research procedures, record-keeping and health and safety regulations
  • Assisting with any other tasks and duties to ensure the smooth running of the laboratory including other administrative and practical tasks as required such as printing files, checking stock, cleaning equipment

Laboratory Technician Assistant Key Skills:

  • Educated to a degree level with experience and knowledge of working in a laboratory, proven experience in the handling and storage of biomaterials - processing a range of human samples such as saliva, urine, blood and faeces
  • Highly punctual, with good organisational skills to confidently manage day-to-day tasks with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail showing diligence and focus when completing all tasks
  • Highly proficient IT skills - MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access) and Internet browser
