Knowledge and Information Manager - Law - London
A longstanding and prestigious law firm that is based out of London, but has an international reach, has an opportunity for a Knowledge and Information Manager to join their team and play a pivotal role in the provision of both information and KM delivery within the firm. The role is to a great extent a standalone role within the firm and the successful applicant will be balancing a mix of operational, tactical and strategic responsibilities. On a day to day basis the role is balanced in favour of supporting the information needs of the firm encompassing aspects of business/legal research, the availability and access to resources and the provision of training. In addition, the successful applicant will also be expected to support on wider KM needs within the firm and to develop the capabilities in reporting and to build on extremely strong foundations that support contract automation and other technology driven innovation in the firm.
Please note this role may suit either an experienced manager or an experienced knowledge and information professional stepping into their first management role.
The primary responsibilities and objectives in this Knowledge and Information Manager role include, but are not limited to:
- The provision of a legal and business research enquiry service
- The management of research resources, the availability of resources and managing the relationships with vendors
- The curation and delivery of current awareness cutting across the firms various practice areas
- The development of both current awareness and research services
- Delivery of training to new joiners and lawyers focusing on research tools and processes and knowledge systems and databases
- Reporting, cost-control and budget management in relation to resources, including the use of analytics to assess ROI
- Operating as a subject matter expert for KM in technology aligned projects and initiatives such as contract automation
To be a suitable applicant for this Knowledge and Information Manager role, a mix of the following is required:
- Considerable experience in an information services role within a legal or professional services setting
- Expertise that cuts across the delivery of information services and wider knowledge management initiativesÂ
- Refined research skills that cover both legal and business enquiries and some exposure to the management of these resources
- A demonstrable interest in KM and in particular the role of KM in relation to technology such as contract automation
- An ability to balance a role that consists of both operational and tactical responsibilities
- Highly developed communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship building experience
