Pay Rate: £14ph PAYE + £1.68 WTR Total: £15.68ph

Hours: 35 hrs 5 days per week 09:30am to 17:00pm on a rota basis Monday to Sunday

Location: East London

Duration 3 months on going contract

We are seeking an experienced and organised Chef to provide a tailored catering service for our residential care home providing accommodation and 24-hour support to 12 adults who have high level mental health needs. They will have a passion for cooking good nutritious and varied food with knowledge of cultural, dietary and nutrition needs of individuals from different cultures.

They will be the sole Chef catering for lunch and preparation for dinner, and will be responsible for:

  • Menu planning in consultation with service users and staff. Plan menus which reflect service users' needs, choice and preferences, some of whom will have special dietary requirements
  • Stock control to ensure adequate catering supplies are purchased, received, maintained and stored
  • Ensuring that a good standard of hygiene and cleanliness is maintained throughout the kitchens, to meet the required standards of practice prescribed by the Food Standard Agencies.
  • Ensuring all health and safety checks are carried out which meet statutory requirements (i.e. food labelling, temperatures, cleaning, pest control checks)
  • Carrying out catering audits/inspections to ensure standards are met
  • Ensuring guidance around nutrition and hydration is being followed for residents
  • Planning and preparing for themed months around food provision
  • Purchasing food and completing transaction record of expenditures

Skills and experience required for the role include:

  • Experience of preparing, cooking and presenting of meals and beverages in a large setting/ for a high number of service users
  • Sound knowledge of Health and Safety practices including food safety and hygiene
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills with knowledge of budget control
  • A relevant qualification in catering, food and hygiene and H&S
