About the role

The New Business Manager works within the Campaigns & Content team at CMS. This team develops firmwide campaigns and issues-based touchpoints that facilitate cross-selling, and it works with the CMS Business Development team to get these touchpoints in front of clients. The aim is to generate conversations that deepen relationship and lead to new work opportunities.

In this role, you can expect to get involved in a variety of work including:

Working with the wider Business Development team to create infrastructure around key clients to maximise revenue opportunities:

  • Coaching on best practice account management
  • Coaching on best practice opportunity spotting
  • Creation and maintenance of best practice infrastructure

Driving the firm's cross-selling collaboration toolkit programme:

  • Identifying relevant issues to cross-sell
  • Promoting and championing the collaboration toolkit programme using internal communication channels
  • Creation of collaboration toolkits by working with lawyers and our design centre
  • Identification of client targets, including detailed research
  • Working with Client Relationship Partners on opportunities to raise with clients
  • Recording activity and measuring success

Cross-selling:

  • Identification of cross-selling opportunities based on firm campaigns and collaboration toolkits
  • Work with partners and Business Development colleagues to secure introductions through thorough research and pragmatic service delivery.

The New Business Manager will be expected to actively maintain a view of all the issues and campaigns that are prioritised across the firm and be a central point of contact for CMS people looking to identify cross-selling opportunities with their clients.

  • Solid understanding of how to identify and develop business opportunities within new and existing client bases.

  • Experience of client account management.

  • Familiarity with content creation and working with internal teams (such as marketing or design) to deliver client-facing materials.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, including Client Relationship Partners, lawyers, and business development colleagues.

  • Experience in coaching teams on best practices for business development, client management, and opportunity spotting.

  • Excellent research skills to understand client needs, market trends, and competitive landscapes.

  • Experience of tracking, measuring, and reporting on the success of business development initiatives.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create and deliver presentations, proposals, and internal communications effectively.
