Join Hammersmith and Fulham Council’s Healthy Streets team and lead transformative public realm projects that tackle climate change, enhance biodiversity, and improve urban living.About the RoleAs a Senior Project Engineer, you will spearhead the design and delivery of high-impact initiatives, including Sustainable Urban Drainage Schemes (SuDS), greening projects, and area-based improvements. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you’ll secure external funding, provide technical expertise, and ensure projects align with the council’s climate action goals.Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead end-to-end project delivery: from concept design to construction, ensuring compliance with legislation (Highways Act, Flood Water Management Act, etc.).
  • Develop funding bids and manage budgets, contractor claims, and financial reporting.
  • Oversee contractors, consultants, and internal teams to deliver quality outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Engage stakeholders, including councillors, residents, and businesses, through consultations and co-production.
  • Advise senior leaders on flood risk mitigation, biodiversity initiatives, and project progress.
  • Deputise for the Healthy Streets Service Manager as required.
About You:
  • Technical Expertise: Degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience) with proven experience in highways/public realm projects. Street Works (NRSWA) Accreditation preferred.
  • Project Leadership: Track record in managing complex projects, including SuDS and greening schemes. Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS, and asset management software (e.g., Confirm).
  • Financial & Legal Acumen: Skilled in budget management, contractor performance monitoring, and adherence to statutory requirements.
  • Communication: Ability to translate technical details into clear, engaging messages for diverse audiences.
  • Collaboration: Experience working in local government (preferred) and a passion for community-driven solutions.
Essential Requirements:
  • Availability to work on-site 3 days per week.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office/Project.
  • Strong understanding of UK highways legislation and public realm best practices.
