One of my clients is looking to recruit a Building Control Surveyor to work non-residential buildings only.

This is a 3-month placement but potential to extend or go permanent, must be able to work 2-3 days per week in the office.

Must have surveying experience in a commercial background and ideally looking for a class 3 specialist surveyor but may consider a class 2.

ROLE IS OUTSIDE IR35.

Purpose of Post

To work within one of 3 multi discipline area teams and administer the full range of Building Regulations functions with regards large, complex & non-complex projects within a defined geographical area under the direction of the Principal Building Control Officer (Team Leader)

You will be committed to providing high levels of customer service and actively promote and market the District Surveyors Office

Main Duties & Responsibilities

The following typical duties are not shown in order of priority or frequency and are not exhaustive;

  1. Participate in meetings to ensure compliance of the Building Regulations 2010 to high profile developers, architects and designers at all stages of building design and construction.
  2. Vetting plans, details, reports, calculations and other information submitted for compliance with the Building Regulations and drafting Consents/Approvals, letters and e-mails in response on behalf of the District Surveyor
  3. Consulting specialist colleagues, other internal Divisions and external statutory bodies in respect of proposals submitted prior to the issuing of Consents or Approvals.
  4. Carrying out site inspections of works in progress to check for compliance with the Building Regulations and informing the Contractor/Client of any deficiencies requiring further action
  5. Carrying out final inspections and appropriate commissioning testing in conjunction with the Contractor/Consultant/In-house M&E Specialist and the issuing of a Building Regulations Completion Certificate on behalf of the District Surveyor.
  6. Preferable to have a well-developed knowledge in a specialist field such as Fire or Structural Engineering, fire precautions, fire risk assessment, cladding systems etc.
  7. To become conversant with the office’s electronic operating systems and keep accurate records of actions taken (including site inspections and time recording)
  8. Building sound working partnerships with clients, developers and their professional teams to provide high standards of customer care. Contributing to the Division’s marketing activities e.g. website editing, brochure and leaflet development, encouraging Partnerships under the LABC scheme etc.
  9. Keeping accurate records, especially where enforcement action is being considered.
  10. Carry out duties in accordance with the Quality Management System.
  11. Reviewing statutory, regulatory and technical standards, including new or revised regulations, to maintain a full and up to date knowledge base and contribute to procedures.
  12. Dealing with applications made under Section 30 of the London Building Acts (Amendment) Act1939 and/or Marriage Act licensing applications (on behalf of the Town Clerk).
  13. To also supervise / oversee the work of the Class 1 & 2 RBI’s within their team and who may assist the Class 3 RBI with work on complex projects.
