A big-hitting global legal firm is looking for a commercial and ambitious individual with a proven track record working as a business development professional to join its dynamic business development team, in a role focused on the implementation of the BD strategy of their pre-eminent Africa Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure practice.
The firm’s highly regarded business development, marketing and communications team is integral to the setting and achievement of the firm’s business objectives, which includes supporting partners and associates in their pursuit of becoming clients’ trusted advisers, building and maintaining long-lasting, deep institutional client relationships, winning new clients, increasing the visibility of the firm globally and positioning the firm as the thought leader and most advanced law firm among the global elite. The function works as one team across the globe with very close collaboration between the central groups, such as communications, and the professionals working in local offices, practice groups, sectors and clients. The role holder will support the practice to win more work and support the practice’s broader Africa activities working collaboratively across borders on sector driven BD activities, focusing on pitches, campaigns and initiatives. This is a great opportunity for someone with an interest in the energy and infrastructure sectors looking for a broad role that spans one of the firm’s core products and two of its priority sector groups. The role requires a 'hands-on’ approach to marketing and BD and being adept at achieving results through detailed work and building relationships and influence within the practice will be essential to success. You will work closely with the Head of Africa and Head of BD, ENRI to execute a refreshed strategy for the Africa practice and the role will require occasional global travel with the Head of Africa Group, visiting offices for practice and sector reviews, business planning and client strategy meetings. Tracking and reporting on marketing budget spend, you will be heavily involved in the preparation of proposals, pitch presentations and credentials statements and will be responsible for the timeliness, consistency and quality of BD tools. On the marketing side, the Business Development Manager will lead the directory and award submissions processes in an effort to increase the market presence of the practice, will manage Africa client events and conference sponsorship and will develop and execute integrated campaigns, liaising with the Communications and PR team to develop a stronger external profile through the use of social media, press releases and thought leadership articles.
Proactive, creative and tenacious, the ideal candidate will have substantial relevant business development and marketing experience within a professional or financial services organisation, to include demonstrable success in marketing to a business audience and working directly with senior management. With a high attention to detail and strong client focus, the Business Development Manager will enjoy working to deadlines, juggling multiple projects and delivering under pressure, and will require excellent communication and persuasion skills in order to motivate fee-earners to deliver business goals. The successful applicant will require exceptional people management skills and experience of managing and developing the careers of a high performing team. Deep experience and understanding of the Africa market and an enthusiasm to develop an in-depth understanding of the ENRI sectors will be essential, whilst previous experience in the Project Finance, Energy or Infrastructure sectors with an Africa focus will be highly advantageous.
