Through our integrated business model, our enterprising team, and our commitment to placing the resident at the centre of our decisions, we’re aiming to set a new experience standard for the apartment industry — one community at a time.

In the UK, our development strategy targets primarily London and the commuter-belt areas, as well as key regional cities including Manchester, Birmingham, etc. We select residential schemes of 200-500 units to optimise operating efficiencies and returns and enhance the resident experience through modern amenities and hospitality-driven service. We currently have three operational developments, Cortland Cassiobury in Watford, Cortland at Colliers Yard in Manchester, and Cortland Broad St. in Birmingham.

JOB SUMMARY

The Manager, Communications - Europe is responsible for implementing Cortland’s internal and external communications initiatives in the UK. This includes coordinating brand and communications strategy targeting Cortland associates and external audiences, including prospective and existing residents, associates, investors, and the media, in the UK.

We want you to be a great storyteller, customer-centric, and able to navigate the complexities of developing a brand that appeals to a multi-tiered audience. This professional should thrive in a fast-paced environment with a "roll up your sleeves" attitude, strong bias-to-action, and entrepreneurial and highly creative spirit.

The scope of responsibility for this position has significant reach across Cortland’s business in the UK. It includes brand and marketing communications, PR/crisis communications and reputation management (social media and online reputation management), and internal communications. Periodically, you will be asked to assist the property marketing team in marketing Cortland’s owned and managed Build-to-Rent and Block communities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Corporate Communications

o Partnering with the Senior Director of Marketing Communications and the Cortland Europe team, develop and implement an internal communications program. Write internal emails, presentations, and newsletters.

o Support the investments and development teams with written communications targeting Cortland investors and/or planning needs.

o Manage ad-hoc resident communications for the block and built-to-rent properties. Perform a train the trainer to rollout the tool kits to communities as needed

    • Work with marketing and community teams to support external and resident communications programme.
    • Support the preparation of corporate information such as board reports, investor relations collateral, and other supporting information.
    • Work alongside Talent team to promote and foster Cortland’s cultural initiatives.
  • PR/Reputation Management
    • Be the thought leader and partner to the UK leadership team in managing Cortland’s UK public relations and communications across corporate communications, press, crisis communication, and internal communication.

o Serve as the London-based contact for PR - manage media inquiries, emails, and phone calls. Partner closely with the Senior Director of Marketing Communications.

    • Understand how to connect with target audiences and build brand communications plan that deliver compelling messaging and content via press and influencers

o Manage crisis communications for the region

o Manage the implementation of PR campaigns and activities, including drafting press releases.

o Protect and grow the reputation of the Cortland brand through proactive and reactive, as needed, social media and online reputation campaigns.

o Prepare briefings for company spokespeople.

  • Brand-building
  • Work with the President of Europe as well as leaders of Operations, Talent, and Investments in the UK to support other functional initiatives and perform other duties as required.
    • Partner with the Senior Director of Marketing Communications to create and implement a compelling brand campaign and communications strategy that aligns with Cortland’s long-term brand vision for the UK and Europe.
    • Act as the local liaison with PR and marketing agencies in the UK.
    • Refresh the brand positioning/messaging to anchor our go-to-market and target audience messaging
    • Build an ongoing content strategy that can be used across platforms and drives audience engagement.
    • Manage industry and trade body relationships to determine and pursue effective opportunities.
