Role:

To raise the organisation’s external profile through public relations work, deliver inspiring, interesting events and support the wider work of the Communications department. Reporting to the Head of Communications, you’ll be responsible for looking for new opportunities to raise the organisation’s profile across different stakeholder groups and you’ll be required to monitor the coverage you do secure to ascertain success. You’ll also lead on the organisation of key events, their annual writers’ awards ceremony, parliamentary events and company AGM.

You’ll report to the Head of Communications, and work with four other members of the communications team, who are predominantly responsible for delivering our digital communications.

In this role you will:

  • Work with the Communications, Advocacy and Membership teams to look for opportunities to profile raise across all areas of work
  • Draft press releases, report on press coverage and assist with the set-up of reporting within CisionOne (their media monitoring service)
  • Source journalists for the team to speak to on key campaigns
  • Project manage key external events including: The Annual Awards, Film the House Awards Ceremony (held in parliament), All Party Parliamentary Group events, the company AGM and any members events
  • Represent the organisation at other events that they sponsor/ are involved in and assist with the organisation of internal staff events.

Candidate:

Our client is looking for an outgoing, dynamic, motivated person with an interest in the creative industries to join the team. You should be an excellent communicator, in person and in print. You’ll be confident and proactive in approaching journalists to sell-in stories and will be creative in looking for new and interesting angles to help to promote the organisation’s work supporting writers’ rights. You’ll combine this with excellent attention to detail, be both confident and thorough when managing projects and comfortable working in a team, delegating tasks to others where needed to help projects succeed. You’ll be calm under pressure, think laterally to solve problems and prioritise your tasks and workload effectively. They would like you to have an enthusiasm for working collaboratively in a small, busy team with a positive, ‘can do’ attitude and a willingness to ‘pitch in’ where required.

  • Proven experience within a similar job role (at least 18 months' - 2 years' paid experience)
  • You’ll have experience of running events
  • Experience of coordinating a wide range of activities, the ability to work under pressure, and to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Experience of how media monitoring services can be used to report on successes and to help shape future work
  • A professional, positive and confident tone in all communications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, adept at communicating and working with stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong technical skills, including MS Office Suite and Office 365
  • Ability to use media monitoring services
  • Exceptional attention to detail in written communications and in project management A good understanding of brand and tone of voice Qualified to degree level.
