OverviewA government agency is looking to recruit someone with a passion for business improvement to lead, manage and report on a cross-agency improvement programme, aimed at strengthening and assuring their control environment and gaining maximum benefit from their internal audit function. The role requires a self-starter who is able to quickly establish constructive working relationships and who is a confident communicator. The role will be instrumental in supporting the agency to embed effective governance and assurance.Key responsibilitiesProject leadership

  • Lead and manage an improvement programme across all operating groups, motivating and supporting areas to meet deliverables and milestones against challenging timescales.

Assurance and control alignment

  • Work with internal stakeholders to map their existing control environment, identify and prioritise areas for improvement and strengthen their controls in a risk proportionate way. Ensure areas are complying with the Government Functional Standards and support the development of action plans to meet all elements.

Stakeholder engagement

  • Engage with internal stakeholders, including senior management teams and Chief Officers / Directors to understand their processes, identify their risks and support them to understand the importance and requirements of the programme.
  • Engage with Government Internal Audit Agency colleagues to support delivery of the annual audit programme and the timely closure of management actions resulting from audits.

Reporting

  • Develop effective reporting mechanisms to enable the tracking of performance on the programme and provide clear and compelling assurance to the Chief Executive, Executive Committee and Auditors.

Skills and experience required

  • Experience managing and reporting on complex business improvement programmes.
  • Experience working in a public sector organisation.
  • Experience working in risk, assurance or internal controls.
  • Experience developing effective reporting mechanisms
  • Experience in working with senior stakeholders to deliver shared objectives
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for creating professional documents.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, able to convey critical information clearly and concisely in a range of different formats in a user-friendly manner.
