GCP Data Platform Engineer £550-£600 per day (Inside IR35)6 months2/3 days a week in office
I am working with a client who is looking for a Data Platform Engineer to lead the data engineering and GCP cloud engineering practice across the organisation. This role is crucial in architecting and designing cloud infrastructure, coaching a team of data engineers, and delivering a scalable and secure data ecosystem. You will work closely with internal teams to drive best practices and ensure the seamless integration of key data platforms.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead Cloud and Data Engineering Practice-
Architect and design the cloud engineering practice and infrastructure within the department.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of data engineers.

Oversee the health and security of the data platform, addressing vulnerabilities proactively.

Develop features and capabilities to enhance data-driven decision-making.

Maintain and optimize a lakehouse architecture on Google Cloud Platform with BigQuery at its core.

Manage data operations and orchestration using Airflow and Cloud Composer.

Support integrations with key platforms such as Fivetran, Tableau, and Alation.

Monitor and manage costs associated with cloud tooling, identifying cost-saving opportunities.

Enhance the architecture in alignment with infosec, multi-cloud, and enterprise architecture practices.

Establish team goals and technical roadmaps in collaboration with the product manager.

Lead the creation and delegation of technical workstreams, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.

Remove technical blockers to enable seamless execution.

Drive adoption of best practices for cloud and data engineering across the organisation.

Develop clear, comprehensive documentation to enhance the data experience for internal teams.

Extensive experience in cloud architecture and data engineering, with a focus on GCP.

Hands-on expertise with BigQuery, IAM, CI/CD, Cloud Networking, and security best practices.

Proven ability to solve complex technical problems in high-scale, AI-driven environments.

Experience in consulting or project-based environments is highly desirable.

Strong ability to work independently, driving technical excellence without micromanagement.
