Database Engineering Manager – Financial Services – Up to £130k + package – Central London Overview:We have recently partnered with a leading Financial Services organisation who are currently looking to hire a Database Engineering Manager to effectively and efficiently build and lead the DBA team. Your role will ensure the security, scalability, and performance of the database infrastructure, which is vital to operations. You will collaborate with various teams to deliver robust, high-availability database solutions and drive the strategic direction of the DBA team.Role & Responsibilities:
  • Manage a distributed team of DBAs, providing leadership, mentorship, and performance management
  • Align database strategies with organizational goals through collaboration with development, security, and operations teams
  • Oversee PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and MySQL databases, ensuring security, scalability, and high availability.
  • Drive decisions on database architecture, performance optimization, backup, disaster recovery, and fault tolerance
  • Lead incident resolution efforts for database issues, minimizing downtime and enhancing recovery processes
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, implementing process enhancements and automation initiatives
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for database systems, ensuring high performance and reliability
  • Collaborate with other engineering managers to ensure successful project delivery and cross-team cooperation
Skills & Experience: Essential:
  • 5+ years of database administration experience, with 2+ years in a leadership role
  • Proven experience managing geographically distributed teams
  • Expertise in relational databases (PostgreSQL) and non-relational databases (MongoDB, Redis, ClickHouse)
  • Strong knowledge of database architecture, replication, sharding, clustering, and high availability
  • Experience in performance tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting complex database issues
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments
Preferred:
  • Experience with cloud (AWS) and on-premise database solutions
  • Background in distributed systems and managing databases with replication and high availability
  • Experience with disaster recovery, backup strategies, and failover mechanisms
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies, such as Kubernetes
