GSL Education are currently seeking dedicated Science Technicians to work in 'Good' and 'Outstanding' secondary schools across Southwark. Whether you’re an experienced Science Technician, a science graduate exploring education, or someone with a strong background in laboratory work, this role offers a rewarding experience to enhance students’ learning journeys.

About the Role:

As a Science Technician, you will assist the science department by preparing materials and providing technical support during practical lessons. You will ensure that all equipment is in safe working order and maintain laboratory spaces to the highest standards. Your role will help create an environment where students can engage in hands-on science experiments with the guidance and support they need to succeed.

What you’ll have to do as a Science Technician:

  • Preparing and organising equipment and materials for practical science lessons.
  • Ensuring that laboratory equipment is maintained and cleaned, ensuring safety and functionality.
  • Providing technical support to teachers and assisting with the smooth delivery of lessons.
  • Managing stock levels of supplies and placing orders when necessary.
  • Ensuring all experiments and equipment meet strict health and safety regulations.
  • Supervising students during practical sessions to ensure correct use of equipment and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Cleaning and maintaining laboratory spaces to meet hygiene and safety standards.
  • Supporting students during practical lessons by providing guidance and demonstrating safe use of equipment.
  • Collaborating with the science department to create engaging and safe practical activities.

Science Technician Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Science Technician in schools or similar laboratory-based roles.
  • A science degree or relevant qualification for those looking to gain experience in an education setting.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with health and safety guidelines in a laboratory environment.
  • Hold a valid Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Proof of the right to work in the UK and two references for background checks.
